Software Security Solutions
is a leader in spyware removal technologies and software that helps remove spyware from your computer. We
started warning our customers and the public about the dangers from Spyware in March of 2002. We helped cultivate awareness about the Spyware industry by testing Spyware
creating spyware remover software
in our Lab and providing Corporate Support for Anti Spyware solutions and Spyware removal tools. Part of our mission is to help customers understand Spyware and Anti Spyware security
by using our spyware remover software. There are two types of Spyware. Malicious Spyware- One in which the Spyware is installed without the users knowledge, understanding or permission.
And the other, in which Non Malicious or Commercial Spyware - someone puts Spyware on a machine to track activities on its users.
SPYWARE ISSUES:
The main issues with malicious Spyware center around two factors; the type of browser being used and permissions of the user. Programmers who write malicious Spyware know most people use Internet Explorer as the default Browser. They also know most users have administrator rights over their local machine, a requirement for most Spyware to be installed. Malicious Spyware writers use these conditions to their advantage. Commercial Spyware is used as a "management tool" to track user habits while on the Internet.
SPYWARE FACTS:
There are many consequences for malicious Spyware. Spyware’s behavior depends on the programmer’s intentions. Some common behaviors include information retrieval and storage and submission of personal data. This is where Internet activity is tracked and reported to unknown parties without the user’s knowledge or permission.
Spyware Cookies or shared server-to-server cookies can track the user from site to site. This information is provided to owners of Ad servers, who can send pop up advertisements focused on the gathered information.
There are other types of threats, such as Browser Hijackers, that can be considered Spyware depending on the program’s behavior. Browser Hijackers redirect the victim's Internet traffic to go through the Owners Proxy Servers first, where the Owner has the ability to record all the information being sent and received as well as the traffic patterns of the users. We view this as a larger security problem than the threat traditional Spyware poses. We are working to enhance our spyware remover software's and techniques.
This is a new industry and solutions are clamoring for the top spots. As in the Anti virus industry, some solutions catch some Spyware and some catch others. This is a well known fact in the industry. For now you may want to consider using multiple solutions depending on your risk and aversion level.
SPYWARE REMOVAL TIPS:
For Free Spyware prevention, there are a couple of steps you can take.
1. Change your default Browser to FireFox (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/) on all machines. This browser is not affected by most Spyware Programs. It is extremely FAST and very reliable. Best of all it is FREE...for now.
2. Create a Limited rights user account on each machine. Use ONLY this account to surf the Internet. If you use Internet Explorer and
surf with a limited rights account, the amount of risk from Spyware decreases dramatically. There is still some risk with Browser Helper Objects (different from Browser Hijackers) but it is minimal. NOTE: This can NOT be done with Windows 98 operating systems.
3. If you choose to use Internet Explorer with Admin rights over the local machine, we strongly recommend using Anti Spyware solutions or spyware removal softwares. There are many choices to choose from including Free Spyware Removers. As with anything you pretty much get what you pay for. BEWARE: There are many small providers that are trying to get involved with Spyware and its removal. Some Anti Spyware programs are actually Spyware! We strongly recommend only the Spyware removal products we have tested and prove to be effective.
