Your antivirus can be a backdoor for hackers. According to iViZ, an information security company, antivirus software when processing malformed packed executables can result in bugs that can cause security vulnerability and help back door entry for hackers. Multiple bugs were found in antivirus software while processing malformed packed executables. Some of these bugs proved to be security vulnerabilities which could make the antivirus itself as a back door for hackers.

eWeek - Symantec has patched a security hole in its Enterprise Security Manager tool that allows attackers to take control of machines remotely requesting an upgrade. The company cautioned users in an advisory that all versions except version 6.5.3, are vulnerable to a remote code execution attack.

CNET NEWS reports that Microsoft may be getting more attention for the upcoming release of VISTA and its new security lifecycle management features than it hoped. Symantec researchers have released the second of three pre-release reports that question the implementation strategies of the security features including the User Account Control which is designed to operate a pc in a least privilege allowed mode. The Symantec engineers argue that there are flaws which will allow the feature to be bypassed allowing a full machine compromise to occur.
